It was one of the happiest weeks for Miley Elizabeth Duvall - not only did she celebrate her birthday but she also finished her undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia.

Two days later, it was nothing but sadness for her friends and family. Duvall died Saturday afternoon after she lost control of her car on Interstate 85 in Douglas County. She had just turned 23 years old.

Thaddeus Smith, MTSU history professor, died July 22 in Nashville due to unknown health problems.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Broadway Christian Church in Winchester. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and will continue until the hour of the service.

Former LSU Police Department Lt. Thomas Fife is under investigation after the FBI seized his work computer, which was used to access child pornography.

Fife was placed on paid administrative leave July 19 after agents searched his on-campus office, The Advocate reported Tuesday.

A University student died Wednesday night as a result of meningitis, according to a broadcast e-mail sent out this morning.

The student was not named in the e-mail, and in the e-mail, acting Chancellor William Jenkins assured students that all who came in contact with the person "have been notified and provided with medication."

Redshirt freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia has been reinstated to the Gamecock football team 14 days earlier than planned, the university said today.
